What is a Doula?

Doulas offer emotional and practical support to parents in pregnancy, during birth and after the baby is born. They work with you to help make sure you have all the information and support you want in preparing for the arrival of your little one(s). You can think of us as your friend for birth – supportive, kind and ready to listen to you. Doula UK have compiled a great list of the research discussing the benefits of doulas.

Parents who use a doula usually feel more supported in the journey to becoming parents. Those who are not having their first child, still find much benefit in having a doula, whether it is because a previous experience was difficult or perhaps this time is just different, or you have only found out about doulas now!

A doula walks alongside you through whatever your experience is – including homebirth, hospital birth, a planned or emergency caesarean, adoption, surrogacy and pregnancy loss. I also offer doula services to those having a termination, a doula can be so invaluable at this time.

A doula is there to provide support and a helping hand in breastfeeding, chestfeeding, bottle feeding, when your baby is in NICU and when you are at home trying to get to grips with a life of endless nappy changes, new sleep patterns and getting to know this new addition to your family!

Please read through my birth package and postnatal doula options to find out more about what to expect from having me as your doula. Do contact me if you would like more information or if you are interested in arranging a free, no obligation initial visit.
